Tune in to NDTV-Hindu tonight for a new chat show featuring film celebrities


Journalist and filmmaker Sudhish Kamath shoots questions at stars and movie celebrities at gunpoint, two at a time on “Hands Up”, starting today (February 26), 9.30 p.m. on NDTV-Hindu.

The series of irreverent chats kicks off with Ganesh Venkatraman and ace photographer G. Venket Ram in hand-cuffs.

The show has three segments — The Mocktale (an icebreaker mocking the guests), Flashback (because all films are incomplete without it) and Framed (a no-holds-barred grilling routine).

Sudhish will also make his unsuspecting guests perform unusual tasks and reward them with gift vouchers from hospitality partner, Influence.

Kerala's Favourite Film Song: ACV, Monday to Saturday, 19.30.

Kerala's Favourite Film Song

It is a quest to find out Kerala's most preferred Malayalam film song.

Each episode features four songs. In total, 200 songs by 60-plus music composers have been shortlisted for the show. From the 200 songs, the top 10 will be short listed by the jury and public.

The three-member jury consists of music buff Ravi Menon, film critic T.P. Sasthamangalam and television critic Usha S. Nair.

Then from the top 10, Kerala's favourite filmy number will be chosen through public voting via sms, online poll and print advertisement poll.

There will also be special episodes on the growth and evolution of Malayalam film songs. Repeat telecast is at 12.30 the following day.

Super Dupe

Amrita TV launches a competition to find the best mimicry artiste who can ape a famous personality. Any individual over the age of 18 with commendable miming skills can apply. The only yardstick for selection is that the contestant should be able to replicate the body language, dress, movements, expressions, gestures and mannerisms of the personality down to the tiniest detail.

Registrations can be made individually or as a group/ team. Preliminary screen tests will be conducted at Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi and Kozhikode. The final audition round will be in Thiruvananthapuram. Register through sms or post. The last date for registration is February 28.

Nabi Dinam specials on the channel begin with ‘Bhagavatamritam' at 05.45. Listen to melodious Mappilapattu at 06.30. At 07.00, is a special ‘Suprabhatam.'

The superhit film ‘Godfather' starring Mukesh, Kanaka and Jagadish is at 09.00. Listen again to the cadences of Mappilapattu at 11.30 followed at 12 noon by the Mohanlal-Sreenivasan starrer ‘Udayananu Thaaram.' At 15.25 is the ‘Cookery Show.'

The premiere of the film ‘Paradesi' starring Mohanlal and Swetha Menon is at 15.30.

Malgudi Days

The popular television series based on R.K. Narayan's work, has been dubbed into Tamil and telecast for the first time.

Set in Narayan's fictional town of Malgudi, the series has been directed by actor and director Shankar Nag. The music is scored by Carnatic musician L. Vaidyanathan while Narayan's brother and famed cartoonist R. K. Laxman has done the sketches.

En Style

(Polimer TV, Sunday, 11.30)

Here's a weekly show on Tamil actors and their style statements. Watch Namitha, Sandhya, Sana Khan, Sangeetha, Ragasiya and Aparna talk about fashion quotient.

Peter FM

(Makkal TV, Sunday, 14.00)

The Russian film narrates the tale of Masha, a cheerful girl, who works as an RJ with Peter FM radio station.

She is set to marry her solemn boyfriend Maxim. But suddenly, life takes an unexpected turn and the two have to make an important decision that could take them away from each other.

Nayagan

(Zee Tamil, Thursday, 21.00)

An iconic actor and a popular politician… that was MGR for you. This new series, which begins on March 4, takes viewers on a nostalgic journey into the life of the legend who rose from humble beginnings to great heights.

People from the film fraternity share their experience, and views on MGR. Also, clippings from his films will be shown. Veteran journalist Sudhangan anchors the show.

Anjarai Petti

TV Highlights - Programs to Watch out For =>

Dharavi

(Victers Channel, Saturday, 20.30)

This week in the classic Indian section watch ‘Dharavi.' The film that won the National award for best feature film in Hindi in 1992, narrates the tale of Raj Karan, a taxi-driver who lives in Mumbai's Dharavi, one of world's largest slums. It follows his fortunes as he tries to breakout from the clutches of poverty, devising plans and investing all his money in dubious schemes, which eventually go bust. Directed and written by Sudhir Mishra, the film stars Shabana Azmi, Om Puri, Raghuvir Yadav and Madhuri Dixit. Repeat telecast is on Sunday at 09.30.

Quiz Time

(Victers Channel, Sunday, 07.00)

The popular quiz show completes its 150th episode. Since it began two years ago, two students – Asha Ajith and Devi Priya – of Mar Ivanios College, Thiruvananthapuram have researched and presented this show. In each episode, the quizzer asks 10 questions. In between, they provide a minimum of 50 clues. The viewer can send the answers via e-mail or post within 10 days and the winner will get Rs. 250. R.V.G. Menon will be the guest for this episode. The repeat telecast is at 16.00.

The new season of the popular reality show to find the most talented young singer begins this Saturday (February 20). The new season was inaugurated by jury members – playback singers G. Venugopal and Sujatha, and K. Madhavan, managing director of Asianet in the presence of actor Bhavana, who heralded the occasion by strumming the thampuru. This edition will have 24 contestants from across Kerala vying for the top spot.

Super Dancer

(Amrita TV, weekdays, 19.00)

After tough rounds of assessing their dance, choreography and improvisational skill the final four have been selected. Now Dilsha, Gayathri, Midh and Sreejith will compete against each other prior to the finale on March 7. This level consists of three rounds. In the ‘self-choreography' round, they are required to choreograph their own steps and are allowed to listen to the song just once before taking to the stage. In the ‘gender change' round the contestants dance in the style of the opposite gender. In the ‘medley round,' they have to dance to a mix of songs that may be drawn from any language and consisting of a minimum of three songs.

As part of Ulaga Thiraipada Varisai, watch this 1980 Soviet adaptation of Arthur Conan Doyle's classic. The fifth in ‘The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson' series, the film is directed by Igor Maslennikov. Vasily Livanov stars as Holmes and Vitaly Solomin plays Watson.
